Update as on 12th Nov ‘ 09
I have been one of the greatest fans of my mobile set (Samsung SGH-B520) untile recently it collapsed.
Within 10 days of my warranty expiry, it not only got its speakers dislodged, but also the screen is blank.
I would urge everyone to go for a bar phone instead of a slider one irrespective of the company.
Well anyway if you want to read my earlier view and ofcourse verdict, then go ahead and have a look.
Samsung SGH-B520 is my new mobile set and I thought to write a review of the same as my post....
This Dhanteras, perhaps for the first ever time I purchased something on my own and what a start!!!!! I purchased my new mobile set ……… This was a sort of probably love @ first sight…….![]()
I went with a clear head that I needed an mP3 set with expandable memory with no other feature to keep the expenses at minimum………I dint need a camera mobile because I am very soon going to be an owner of Panasonic Lumix LZ8……… Motoyuva was the obvious choice with its voice quality and the brand name ( Motorola is my first choice, Nokia doesn’t represent newer generation perhpas )……. Even then as an ideal customer I looked for each brand and this Samsung SGH-B520 was brought before me……..
Well with its metallic look, ok sound quality and sliding feature, it impressed me….. Some of the nice features are following
1. Metallic look:- This mobile just looks awesome….
2. Slide :- This set has a sliding feature and that’s an extra value to your money.
3. Sound quality :- The sound quality is also good…. If you are using earphone, then you will have your reasons to be content.
4. Screen :- Following its tradition, Samsung has once again been able to provide a quality screen in low range models.
However it really disappointed me on some grounds
1. No bluetooth :- Though I knew it b4 purchasing but even then a bluetooth is always a very welcomed feature….
2. Music Player -U cannot use the features like “Repeat all” and “Repeat one” if you are playing songs directly from memory card. Yeah but you can always add songs to playlists and enjoy the melodious music. But you cannot hide the music player while in use to access the menu.. So this is a drawback. Moreover you can add a maximum of 120 songs to the 4 playlists ( 4*30 )…
3. The sound could have been louder with the earphones off…… As always Samsung have not been able to provide the loudest phones……
4. Battery :- The most important disappointment came with the battery backup……… It hardly gives a backup of 2 days with nominal amount of use….. Precisely about 3-4 hour of music without earphones would be sufficient to ask you for a recharge…
Photos of the mobile would be uploaded very soon ….. Till then be patient.
Verdict :- This mobile is an elegant mobile with certain drawbacks….. However @ Rs 3350 with a Samsung 1GB card, I guess it provides a very good value for your money……No complains to the company…

Grace I completely agree with you over the Samsung mobiles being too delicate. But sliding mobile sets are generally soft. So you have to be careful. I would even suggest you to protect latest Samsung sets from water. Their behaviour with water has been very disappointing.

Hi Nithiyanandhan
For being able to add songs to playlist, your songs must be present in the folder music in your memory card. Probably you have added songs into some floders inside the music folder. Move the songs into the music folder directly and then go to options and add the songs to the playlist. You can add a maximum of 120 songs to the four playlist.. I hope it helps.

Hi,
While trying to transfer songs using PCSTUDIO, I found that the default is phone memory & thus I am not able to transfer more than 4/5 songs. Do you know how can I make the memory card default instead.
thanks

Hi BM
I came across the similar problem and even after much attempts I cudn’t comeup with a solution. I cud use my memory card as an external storage media only as PCSTUDIO did not recognize it…

You dont need to transfer it through the music manager in the program. Rather just copy your songs and paste in the respective folder of memory card.
Thats what I did and its working fine for me.
Thanks

I can’t find any default screensavers in the phone. At first I thought they weren’t there, but that’s impossible. Within the DISPLAY SETTINGS, there were no screensavers, no themes. Please tell me how I can find them.
Moreover how can I stop the phone from receiving calls from a certain number?

I am facing a problem with its SMS inbox. What is the size of SMS inbox in this phone. SMS is automatically saved in the phone memory and when it reaches 100 is starts showing memory full. I tried to transfer some of SMS to Memory Card but could transfer only 8-9 when it sais you have reached your maximum limit. Is there anyway how I can solve this mystery?
Thanks

Personally I am no more a fan of this supposedly good mobile set. I cannot suggest you to purchase this set or any slider set. Instead go for a bar one to avoid future agonies.
