Browse through TV Channels and most of the channels you will find will be the so called ” NEWS CHANNELS “. With the advent of cable tv and its explosive popularity news channels spread at an infectious speed. However very soon they realise that being a complete news channel is not sufficient to fulfill their desires and everincreasing lust. SO they dedicate themselves to news of cricket, movies, tv serials, more cricket, more movies and more tv serials. In the process what they forget is that they are news channels and someone may be watching it expecting to get acquainted with what is happening in his/her city and country. These “news” channels claim themselves to be one of the four pillars or Indian democracy i.e press and in return demand previleges from the government for a real news channel. In circumstances when 90% of their airtime is dedicated over cricket and entertainment issues, their news channel tag should be snatched and better they should be infact banned for not only wasting time of 1 billion people but even misleading them in various issues. I would like to give an example which I strongly felt about: Today an underconstruction chimney of BALCO Power Plant @ Korba, Chhattisgarh collapsed under a lightning strike and more than 50 people died. Even after 3-4 hours of the accident I would like to discuss what the so called NATIONAL NEWS CHANNELS were airing.
1. AAJ TAK:- This channel claims to be the “No. 1 news channel of India”. And this best news channel was busy declaring to world that Yuvraj Singh will not be available for 6 weeks for some finger injury. Even on a day when there was no cricket match of India it continued airing the same news with a big mention that this exclusive news is brought to you by xyz from xyz.
2. NEWS 24:- A national news channel serving as a loyal servant of the cricket fraternity. In 1-2 hour show what it could convey was that Yuvraj will not be available for 6 weeks and he is coming back to India. What was more worse that it was not even flashing the news @ bottom. After some time it started giving a breaking news with heading ” cricket ka kamasutra”. “Yuvraj ka sex secret”. I just don’t have words to praise the channel.
3. INDIA TV:- The infamous news channel. I was never expecting anything productive or informative and as usual this channel never fails to cheat my expectations. Some really absurd news of Indian cricket and TV Serials was going on.
3. ETV Bihar:- Being a local news channel I was not expecting more than a flashing news at bottom about the accident. But then I realised that if it can air news about the Yuvraj’s broken finger for about half an hour, why it cannot provide news about the mishappening.
4. DD News:- This was the only channel which was continuosly updating news about the accident. Though it was also in the form of a flashing news at the bottom. I expected more but when I see conditions of other news channel, I am still happy about this channel.
Unfortunately my cable operator can avail us with only these channels. But I am sure the condition would have been same with all the other “NATIONAL NEWS CHANNELS”. Probably its really good that our cable operator provides us few channels due to which our some time is saved. More than 50 people dying in an accident is a national calamity and it deserves proper mention in each and every news channel be it national or regional. Why do these channels forget many people would have been watching these channels with a hope to get information about the accident to know the well being of their near and dear ones. These channels have no right to deny this social responsibilty and if they deny I really feel that they should be banned and infact they should be sued.
